I was one of the assigned reporters for this topic and from what I have learned from this topic is that and how we narrate our story of our own life reveals what problems are we may be experiencing when we view ourselves as “being” the problem, we are limiting ourselves in the ways we can effectively deal with the problem.
We are reminded that we the person is not the problem; our problem is the problem. Separating the problem from the individual facilitates hope and enables clients to take a stand against specific story lines, such as self-blame.
Many postmodern therapies attempt not to focus on a specific problem, but rather aim on a solution. Clients are encouraged not to wallow in the past but to live in the present. They view clients as the experts in their life only needing assistance on how to get there. They merely assists the clients through open ended questions to the clients and let them think of solutions.
Some therapies aim at concrete actions, and others are oriented toward forming a new life narrative. For me, this therapy kinda feels like you have an own cheerer, for the counselor or therapist are more on making you feel more positive on life, they don’t want us to blame ourselves and assists us to revise our life stories in positive by asking us questions that leads us to think clearly and come up with likely solutions to our problems.
