a coroner is, in some states, an elected official who determines the causes and manners in which one has died. he/she is responsible for providing information to law enforcement which can assist them in solving their cases. they also provide the state and local municipalities with information that can either alert them to something that could be a community health issue or danger, or the information can put them at ease.
becoming a coroner requires extensive education. in some states, coroners are required to have undergraduate degrees in law enforcement and in others they have to be licensed physicians. in college one must study anatomy, biology, and law.
