THE MONKEY BUSSINESS ILLUSION
I found the video as interesting as it was challenging. I was able to count the correct number of passes the players wearing white make, I noticed the gorilla as well but was not able to see the player wearing black leaving and neither did I detect the curtain changing color from red to gold. It was inevitable that I was going to miss certain unexpected events since my mind was focused on a particular task. This video is a typical representation of human behavior, capabilities and limitations. It is only natural that we cannot notice every single thing happening around us regardless of whether it is in our field of vision or not.
The concept of similarity. This concept is crucial element in this video. It states that, all else being equal, perception lends itself to seeing stimuli that physically resemble each other as part of the same object. This comes to the fore when we can distinguish the players wearing white and the players wearing black. It is also because of this element that some individuals do not see the gorilla because their minds have perceive it as part of the black players or not at all.
The concept of proximity. It states that objects or shapes that are close to one another appear to form groups. One may say that this concept has been reverse engineered in this particular scenario. Since the players are mobile and keep moving and intermingling, one cannot group the players using this concept. This is one of the reasons some people do not notice the monkey and also fail to see the curtain changing color.

The concept of good form. This element refers to the tendency to group together forms of similar pattern, shape or color. This is why one is able to differentiate the players wearing black from those wearing white. It also allows one to notice the monkey and the curtain changing color.
