The hypodermic Syringe model is the belief which implies the audience watching a media text are passive viewers and similar to sponges; absorbing much of what the media reports. Moreover, if this model is correct this would explain why the public is likely to believe this and it generates ‘contemporary fear,’ as stated by Greer and Reiner (2012), ‘The media are – and arguably always have been – a source of many of our contemporary fears,’ this suggests that the media are to blame for planting this fear of being a victim of crime in your own society. Additionally, it can be said that the media are reporting crime in a manner that is causing a hidden, negative effect on the public.
