The government have been fostering a national identity in Singaporeans at a very young age. Students in primary and secondary schools are required to sing the national anthem and recite the pledge daily. By doing so, a national identity will be instilled in students and it will strengthen their sense of belonging to the nation. Also, there is a policy on multi-racialism which promotes equality among the different races in Singapore. There will be no special treatment for any race or religion. Since everyone is regarded as a valued member of Singapore, a national identity is fostered. Moreover, English is a common language which helps to foster a national identity in Singapore. English is a non-native language which brings everyone together and no one will have an advantage over another.
