The Conflict in “A&P” by John Updike
People are require to uphold a certain level of conformity in their everyday lives since if not they would ridiculed or judged from their communities. John Updike short story “A&P” is portraying the everlasting battle between conformity and non-conformity. Updike using the store, A&P to portray the elevated level of conformity in the community and he uses the three girls to show the other end of the spectrum – non-conformity.
