Cardiovascular Protection

Cardiovascular Protection :-
Myocardial infraction is the most lethal manifestation of cardiovascular diseases and it is one of the most important subjects of intense investigation by scientists. Cardioprotective effect of hydroalcoholic extract of W. somnifera was studied on the basis of haemodynamic, histopathological and biochemical parameters in the isoprenaline- (isoproterenol) induced myocardial necrosis in rats and was compared with vitamin E, a known cardioprotective antioxidant. Both the drugs restore the myocardial antioxidant status and maintain membrane integrity by evidently reducing the malonyldialdehyde levels. Cardioprotective effect of these drugs was also confirmed by histopathological examinations(Sharma et al,2015). W. somnifera Possesses a mild hypoglycemic, diuretic and an anti-hypercholesterolemic agent, Supports Streptozotocin induced diabetes and also Supportive in retinopathy (Umadevi et al.2012). Recently W. somnifera was confirmed to be a cardio-protective agent that provides a scientific reason for rationale of the use of this medicinal plant in Ayurveda as Maharasayana (Gupta et al., 2004; Mohanty et al., 2004; Sehgal et al., 2012, Ahmad Mir et al,2012
