Harry S. Dent

This paper presents the many accomplishments of the great economist, Harry S. Dent.

This paper examines the different theories and contributions that were made by Harry S. Dent. The paper begins with a brief biography of Dent’s economic writings and discusses how he became famous when he drew a correlation between stock market and population trends. The paper details many of writings including his investment philosophy, his approach to finance, as well as his predictions for the future. The paper also examines the similarities and differences between John Maynard Keynes and Dent’s economic philosophy, including how their success was rooted in their ability to accurately predict social and economic changes that would transform society.
“Around 2008, says Dent, a “Shakeout” phase will occur, when the 1980’s baby boomers surpass their peak spending years. This phase will be similar to the 1930s depression and will be marked by massive unemployment. The best investments for this time, according to Dent, will be government and high quality corporate bonds, small town real estate and commercial properties. Dent predicts that the Dow will crash to about 7,000 in 2023. After 2023, the next boom will begin, says Dent, and the Dow will peak at about 40,000 by 2050.”
