Dr. Kevorkian: The Real Danger

An argumentative paper against Dr. Kevorkian’s use of euthanasia.

This paper presents an argument against assisted suicide as practiced by Dr. Jack Kevorkian. The paper contends that Dr. Kevorkian is dangerous because he willingly defies any established religious, legal and moral belief system that does not agree with him. The paper argues that the real danger is not Dr. Kevorkian himself, but the freedom we have allowed him to destroy human life.
His critics say he preys on the sick and feeble-minded in the guise of mercy but he is Death in disguise. Is Dr. Jack Kevorkian that dangerous? With consent of the patient, he mercifully and painlessly ends his or her suffering. What could be so dangerous about that? Dr. Kevorkian is dangerous because he willingly defies any established religious, legal and moral belief system that does not agree with him.

From a religious standpoint, most established spiritual belief systems are against euthanasia. God, it is believed by most religions gives life and God should be the one to take that life back. No where in any sacred text does it advocate taking the life of another except in protection or punishment but not for the alleviation of suffering. When the man came to Jesus and told him of his sick mother, Jesus did not say `Suffocate her and end her misery.` He said, `Just as the son of man heals, so too can man heal.`”
